I was one of the keynote speakers at the recent Blogging Strategies Summit. The other one was Guy Kawasaki. Yeah, I’m humbled.

This post is a mindmap of Guy Kawasaki’s presentation, based on his new book Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions.

There are a number of really valuable big-picture-to-action things embedded in this:

  • Biology: note how the first item, Likeability, ties into innate human factors and “honest signals.”
  • Socialness: with all the blather about social-this and social-that these days, the second item “Trustworthiness” is what being a social creature is about.
  • Process: not leaving things to chance with being enchanting means having a process.
  • Tools: only when the above items are covered does he dig into practices or tools or techniques. A firm ground has been established.

Web Analytics Wednesday continues on Wednesday June 29th. And it’s going to be awesome. Why? Because Kacey Grasso-Freel of Burton Snowboards is going to talk about analytics inside the organization.

Here’s what Kacey’s going to talk about:

Our journey at Burton with Web Analytics: How the position started and how it has changed in the past two years. The challenges I have faced and the tools I use etc.

For anyone doing web analytics this has to be among the most important topics ever: the interface between the analytics dept and the whole organization. I’m psyched and I hope you are too!

Details after the break.

In 2008 the US changed the way it thought about a place to live.

The words we use to describe things are powerful. They’re hooks that we use to find information. For business owners, the words that customers use to describe things are hooks used to attract more customers.

Mirroring the language of those around us is a way to grow closer together. Marketers have used this to advantage for some time. Online is no different. Search engine optimization is perhaps the most focused and science-like effort by business owners to mirror the language of customers. Last night the topic of #retechchat was using video in real estate. Drew Meyers, who hosts the event, did a great job stirring up the conversation and keeping it rolling. There was an obvious interest in the topic, as there should be. Real estate estate is one of those industries where images and narrative are a natural fit.

In January 2011 I curated a conversation for Real Estate Connect New York about video with Amy Kane, Senior Vice President, Houlihan Lawrence and Christian Sterner, Co-Founder & CEO, WellcomeMat. Reading the questions and ideas at the #retechchat made me think it would be great to share the conversation with a wider audience. Continue reading “Online Video: A tipping point”

Gahlord Dewald and Justin Cutroni will be having a conversation about web analytics this Thursday May 5 at 1pm Eastern. Who knows what exactly they’ll cover, but if you want to learn more about your online audience, chances are good you’ll get something useful from listening in on their conversation.

This is bound to be a pretty popular session and spaces are limited.

Register to listen in on Gahlord and Justin as they talk about web analytics and other geeky fun stuff.

Gahlord Dewald says “When people ask me how I learn about Google Analytics I usually just say something like ‘Oh I read a blog post now and then.’ But that’s a lie. I don’t read a blog post now and then. I ask Justin Cutroni.”

Justin Cutroni is the director of digital intelligence for Cardinal Path and is also the guy who wrote the Google Analytics book. He’s also incredibly gifted at making analytics accessible and understandable for business owners, marketing wonks and anyone else who worries too much about their bounce rate.

Proximity

Proximity
The distance between two users of a locative media service.
Used as a geofence, locative media can perform actions such as “When a user is within the proximity of another user, do something cool.”
Used as a data set, locative media can learn about a user based on which other users or internet-of-things objects are within proximity.
For locative media applications, proximity can be used as a bridge into social media
